NATURE OF WORK
Supervisory duties in the 24-hour Emergency-911 Communication Center include, but not limited to, ensuring fire, police, and emergency medical services to the City of Evanston, may work during evening hours.  Supervises Telecommunicators engaged in dispatching police, fire, and EMS calls according to established policies and procedures.  Provides the 1st level of 24-hour support for the communications computer system and radio equipment in the Police Department for all representatives.  Must be available for after-hour emergencies when necessary.   In the absence of the Communications Coordinator, this position may serve as acting Communications Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following):
" Supervises the telecommunication staff by making monthly schedules, handling requests for time off, completing daily attendance sheets, recommending and scheduling training, and evaluating overall performance.
" Provides supervision to staff that effectively ensures the efficient, timely, and continuous operation of the emergency center.
" Keeps the Communication Coordinator informed of all activities within his/her scope of responsibility.
" Maintains accurate files within the Communications Center including CAD Menu/Note files, and alarm log, personnel files, equipment inventory, and other files.
" Remains familiar with all Communications Center equipment including civil defense/tornado siren, fire alarm system, digital voice logger, VCR/multi-plexer, Mobile Data Terminal, and TDD.
" Ensures a good working relationship with other departments and courteous service to the general public.
" Assists with coordinating training of all newly hired Telecommunicators.
" Provides in-service or roll call training as required to ensure that every Telecommunicator has a thorough understanding of the communications Center orders, policies, and procedures; and a working knowledge of communications.
" Coordinates operational and maintenance work with other agencies including IPSAN, ADT, and Motorola.
" Oversees the maintenance of records for a variety of computer systems including MSAG, AT&T database information, LEADS, and CADS.
" Manages the police UHF and fire VHF radio systems by coordinating the licensing, purchasing, and maintenance contracts.
" Handles citizen complaints and personnel disciplinary issues in accordance with the Department's Standard Operating Procedures, General Orders, and other rules and regulations.
" Monitors equipment performance and reports any problems to the Communications Coordinator and/or appropriate service agency.
" Reply to court ordered subpoenas and search and provide copies of recorded information that apply to police or fire investigations.
" Acts as computer system administrator for the SunGard Public Sector software.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS - TASK STATEMENTS
" May assume temporary responsibilities of the Communications Coordinator during his/her absence.
" May participate in the recruitment and selection processes.
" May perform special projects such as studies that required data collection and analytical assessment.
" May perform as a project manager on the implementation of new systems and services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK 
" Possession of an Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Criminal Justice, Information Technology, Business, Public Administration or related field, Bachelor's degree preferred; and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in a communication management, emergency communications field, experience in a 911-Center preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
" Considerable knowledge of and ability to use computer systems and networks, Internet search engines, word processing software, email, and Windows operating systems.
" Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  To interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
" Ability to prepare work assignments, summaries, reports, memos, and purchase recommendations using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules and punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
" General understanding of principles underlying the laws and regulations of the municipality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
The ability to work in a primarily sedentary position, with the ability to occasionally use force to exert up to 50 pounds. The ability to lift, carry or otherwise move objects, books, materials, etc. using up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from indoor temperature changes.
There are no environmental hazards associated with this classification.

SUPERVISION
The Assistant Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Coordinator who outlines work assignments, reviews work in progress, and completed work.  Works closely with all relevant departments/bureaus to assist and inform in the incorporation of communication best practices, as appropriate.  Guidance is provided via the City Code, Standard Operating Procedures, City policies and procedures, applicable state and federal laws and regulations, as well as a wide variety of information relating to positive youth development, ensuring that initiatives are met.  Work is evaluated at least annually with respect to progress toward achieving goals, leadership, communication skills, customer service, ability to work productively and effectively with employees at all levels in the organization as well as elected and appointed officials, community groups and the general public.

NATURE OF WORK
Receive and prioritize 911 emergency and non-emergency calls.  Operate radio equipment to dispatch police, fire and emergency medical personnel.  Track status of units and maintain related records.  Monitor alarm system, process warrants, relay messages.  Computerized data entry and access City Network and a variety of databases to retrieve related information as required.  Innovative 40 hour per week work schedule gives you 78 more days off per year than a traditional work schedule.  You get a 3 day weekend every other week.

Glendale Heights Police
Telecommunicator

The Village of Glendale Heights has a position available for a full-time Telecommunicator in the Police Department Communications Center.  Performs a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical functions in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information, keeping official records, and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the Communications Center.

Monitors telephone and radio, answers all incoming calls and ascertains nature of call, gathers all necessary information to transmit or relay.  Dispatches police and other response vehicles for emergency responses.

Graduation from High School or GE equivalent with specialized course work in general office practices such as typing and filing and two years of increasing responsible experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.  Good oral and written communications skills, typing 35 wpm and the ability to effectively respond to emergency situations.

This position is a swing shift.  Works 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm and/or 8:00 pm thru 4:00 am with rotating days off (work 6 days, off 2 days).  Position with occasional duties on other shifts as well.

Hourly rate:  $19.69--$27.17, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village of Glendale Heights offers full-time employees a generous benefit package including health and dental insurance.

TriCom Central Dispatch, the public safety (9-1-1) communications center for St Charles, Geneva and Batavia, is seeking applicants for the part-time position of Administrative Assistant.  This position is responsible for performing receptionist, clerical, and administrative work for the agency director and deputy director.  Greeting visitors, receiving incoming phone calls; composing and typing emails, letters, memos, and reports; maintaining organized computer and paper files are among the primary job duties.

Other duties include recording, typing and distributing meeting minutes, maintaining 911 dispatch schedules, employee time sheets, attendance records and personnel files; creating and maintaining spreadsheets for accounting and budgeting purposes; and assisting with the preparation of the annual operating budget.

High school diploma required.  Associates degree preferred, with coursework in English composition, secretarial/clerical procedures and word processing and spreadsheet software applications; and a minimum of 2 years secretarial experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential function of the job.

Knowledge of English composition; spelling, grammar, punctuation, and conventional formats, designs and styles used in letters, memos, envelopes, meeting minutes, reports and other documents is necessary.  Applicant must be familiar with Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel to an intermediate or advanced level.  Must be able to navigate the internet and find information via search engines.  Basic mathematical computation skills are a must.

CAD Administrator

Starting Pay - $24.14 to $26.98 hr depending on qualifications - Maximum Pay: $34.08 hr.

TriCom Central Dispatch, the public safety (9-1-1) communications center for St Charles, Geneva and Batavia, is seeking applicants for the full time position of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System Administrator.  This position is responsible for managing, maintaining and operating all components of TriCom’s Motorola CAD system hardware and software, including interfaces.  This includes routine maintenance, keyboard entry of data, coordinating updates to the GIS database and map, troubleshooting problems and installing updates.

The CAD System Administrator will develop and maintain all CAD database files, including incident type codes, priority codes, emergency response area/beats, response plans and resource assignment tables.  Other responsibilities include researching and verifying city annexations, new streets and changes to response beat/zone areas; working with municipal GIS personnel to prepare periodic map updates; formulating database queries and designing reports to provide statistical analysis and department management reports; and meeting and coordinating with application software and computer hardware vendors to ensure continued operation and/or facilitate the procurement of new software and hardware.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a demonstrated knowledge of methods and principles of managing, maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading a public safety CAD system; and a minimum of 4 years of multi-discipline (police, fire & EMS) public safety dispatch experience; or any combination of education; training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Previous experience with Microsoft and Motorola software and related applications, such as Crystal Reports, is ideal.

Fire/EMS Telecommunicator

The Regional Emergency Dispatch (RED) Center, a multi-jurisdictional, Fire/EMS Dispatch Center located in Northbrook, IL is currently accepting applications for full time employment.  There is currently one open position to be filled through this current hiring process.  RED Center dispatches Fire/EMS calls for service for 13 Fire Departments located in the northern suburbs of Chicago.  In addition, RED Center is a MABAS Division Headquarters, and currently is the single point of contact for various county and statewide mutual aid and special response plans.

The starting salary is $47,016.  Telecommunicators work a rotating shift comprised of 2 days/2 nights on duty - 4 days off duty.  Shifts are 12 hours in duration.

QuadCom 9-1-1 is accepting applications to create an eligibility list for the positions of Full & Part Time Emergency Communications Operators.     Applications for part-time are accepted throughout the year.

QuadCom is a multi-jurisdictional, Police/Fire/9-1-1 Dispatch Center that provides emergency communications to 9 municipal police and fire departments/fire protection districts located in northwestern Cook and northern Kane County, Illinois.

The Deerfield Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Telecommunicator.  Telecommunicators perform emergency and non-emergency communications for the Police Department, including answering emergency calls and non-emergency inquiries, dispatching Patrol Officers, monitoring the status of Officers and maintaining related records to ensure Officer and citizen safety.  Employees serve on a shift basis for a 24-hour a day, serve day-a-week service operation.

Starting salary is $50,730.  Benefits include: health, dental, and life insurance.  Requirements are: a H.S. diploma or GED, with some college preferred; excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously; personal computer operations; basic knowledge of federal, state, county, and local laws.

ROLLING MEADOWS POLICE DEPARTMENT
PART TIME TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR

The Rolling Meadows Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Telecommunications Operator (Dispatcher).  Responsibilities include: dispatching all requests for Police, Fire, Medical and ESDA services for the City from 911 telephone system; coordinate responses by emergency services personnel; responsible for dissemination, data entry and file maintenance of all calls for service (emergency, non-emergency, traffic and service-related activities); performs visual security monitoring of Department's jail facilities and secured building entrances; and other work that may be assigned pertinent to this job classification.  [This position will be working approximately 30 hours a week].

Minimum qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Illinois drivers' license
  • Ability to successfully complete the City's screening process (CritiCall® test), including background investigation, criminal history, medical and psychological examination.

Ideal candidates will possess the following certifications:

  • Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAED)

  • LEADS
  • Working knowledge of New World Systems CAD/LERMS and related systems.

Southeast Emergency Communications (SEECOM) is a consolidated emergency communications center.   SEECOM began operations in a new facility and employs 24 full-time Telecommunicators, serving a population of over 201,000.  SEECOM is seeking to fill several full-time positions with experienced Telecommunicators and establish an eligibility list.  SEECOM is also accepting applications for part-time employment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
¢Answers incoming emergency and routine assistance calls. 
¢Independently assesses need and urgency of requests and situations and dispatches emergency response personnel including law enforcement personnel, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and others to incident/accident scenes.
¢Operates and maintains radio and telecommunication systems including computer aided dispatching equipment, CAD, and telephone device for the deaf (TDD/TTY).
¢Maintains knowledge of current communication policies and procedures and state national and local dispatch codes.
¢Participates in on-going training.
¢Monitors bank, business and residential alarms, and notifies appropriate person/agency as required.
¢Operates LEADS system: Enters warrants, stolen vehicles/items, missing persons and other information.
¢Maintains logs, records and files as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

¢High School Diploma or equivalent. 
¢Successfully complete CritiCall Testing.  
¢Prior public safety dispatching experience preferred.
¢Bilingual skills desirable.
¢Obtain LEADS certification within one year of employment and annually maintain LEADS certification.
¢Obtain CPR and EMD certifications within one year of employment and annually maintain CPR and EMD certifications.
¢No felony convictions and submit to a criminal history background check.
