COURSE DESCRIPTION AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

September 22, 2009, the Illinois Chapter of APCO is proud to feature a day with Gordon Graham. The eight-hour program will be a presentation on Telecommunications Operations focusing on risk management and addressing civil liability concerns.

The morning session will start with some thoughts on becoming a "HRO" -high reliability organization. Gordon wiII share with you the thoughts of the father of the nuclear navy -Admiral Hyman Rickover and the proven strategies he used to make the nuclear fleet so great.

Next Mr. Graham will introduce all attendees to his "Five Concurrent Themes for Success". These themes -Risk Management, Systems, Customer Service, Accountability and Integrity -when working together allow tasks, incidents and events a higher probability of going right -thus eliminating problems prior to occurrence.

A discussion on "Why things go right and Why things go wrong" will follow -with an emphasis on "risk assessment" -specifically what tasks in each job description have the highest probability of causing you and the organization tremendous grief. More importantly, Gordon will give you proven control measures on how to prevent bad things from happening.

This will lead into a discussion of the principles of organizational risk management -the  daily and ongoing responsibility we all have regarding getting and keeping good people, developing good policy and procedures, assuring that all personnel are fully and adequately trained, making sure that supervisors are in fact behaving like supervisors, and the importance of organizational discipline.

Gordon will follow up these comments with some thoughts on liability -and what can be done up front to prevent lawsuits.

The presenter of this action packed seminar is Gordon Graham, an internationally recognized 33-year veteran of California Law Enforcement (retired), and an attorney with a background and formal education and experience as a risk manager. Mr. Graham combines his vast knowledge in multiple areas with great humor with the goal of educating the attendee in how to better protect themselves, their employer and their profession.

Those familiar with Gordon know the exciting, information filled seminars he delivers. He combines his thirty-three years in law enforcement with his background as and attorney and education in risk management to deliver programs that allow the informed attendee the ability to go back to her/his agency and really make a difference. This program has been delivered at Fire Departments, Police and Sheriff Departments and APCO conferences around America.

A complete set of handouts will be provided to allow immediate implementation of these concepts when the attendee returns to work. These handouts will also contain Mr. Graham's Operational Risk Management "rules" that summarize the covered material in each of the above critical areas. Past evaluations of his program have been outstanding.

You will not be sorry you spent a day with Gordon Graham.
